Lab by Transport for Wales, the Innovation Accelerator provider for Transport for Wales Rail are running a 12-week accelerator programme, starting in early November 2019.

Partnered with Transport for Wales Rail, TfWL are looking for the most innovative businesses that can make an impact on the rail industry, by improving passenger experience, safety & wellbeing, or improving business processes.

Who is the programme for?

The programme offers a fantastic opportunity for start-ups, scale-ups or entrepreneurs in the early stages of their business, that can help improve passenger experience, safety across rail, or improve business processes.

Start-ups, scale-ups or entrepreneurs with an existing product or service can apply for the programme, and throughout the 12 weeks the TfWL accelerator will help to identify how your existing offering can be pivoted to the rail sector.

Start-ups who have just an idea that is in early stage development, can also apply to join. Throughout the 12 weeks, these organisations will benefit from Innovation training to help test their idea, refine it for the rail sector and build a prototype, ready to pitch to key decision makers at Transport for Wales Rail.

What is the programme?

The Lab by Transport for Wales innovation accelerator is a 12-week programme, looking to work with 8-12 small businesses. It is designed to help up-skill and up-scale start-ups over a 12-week period of innovation training, mentoring and workshops including:

  • Design thinking
  • User experience testing
  • Minimum viable product development
  • Gaining customer insights
  • Agile working methods
  • Product testing

TfWL are carrying out this accelerator programme in partnership with Transport for Wales Rail to help;

  • Improve passenger experience for rail users
  • Improve internal business processes
  • Implement innovation throughout Transport for Wales Rail

The 12-week programme will be based out of a dedicated innovation hub, built by Transport for Wales Lab in Newport Wales. Candidates will have weekly coaching sessions, mentoring and workshops delivered from Innovation experts, product owners & managers as well as key members of the Transport for Wales Rail infrastructure.

The programme is designed to accelerate start-ups and within 12 weeks, get them to a point where they can pitch a tested prototype to Transport for Wales Rail. Successful pitches will be rewarded a contract of work with TfWR, providing these companies the resources they need to see their project through to completion and launch their live product to the marketplace.

Along with this, start-ups will also enjoy an innovative workspace to be based out of for the duration of the accelerator programme. The programme offers networking opportunities with other start-ups as well as Transport for Wales Rail decision makers and stake holders. All candidates on the programme will also undergo training and take part in workshops to help them;
