Join a network with connections spanning a local, national and international level.

Sensor City is a network hub for contacts within the SME and Industry 4.0 sensor and IoT communities, alongside a wider innovation support network including other University Enterprise Zones, the KTN network and other specialist innovation hubs.

Our collaborative approach enables industry and academic partners to translate novel and innovative sensor concepts into commercially viable solutions through rapid prototype development and laboratory testing facilities, and helps businesses capitalise on the growing digital revolution.

Our community is made up of a range of partners, members, resident customers, associates and staff. Sensor City itself is also a member of several professional organisations, in addition to being a delivery partner of a number of programmes.

Project Opportunities

We are working with Unilever to connect their R&D teams with the local student and academic researcher community, to engage in collaborative project opportunities.

Our first Student Projects event ran in October 2020 and the successful students are now working alongside colleagues at Unilever to develop their creative challenge solutions.

Unilever are currently advertising a 3-month, paid, Non-Invasive Pressure Sensor Technology for Pilot-Scale Applications Placement opportunity.

Specific details:

  • Pipe diameters of interest: 1.5”
  • The sensitivity / accuracy: 0.1 bar
  • Materials: strain gauges possibly and the associated infrastructure for extracting the data from such a device
  • Timelines: 3 months
    • 1 month for lab testing and set up of sensor
    • 1 month for testing in pilot plant (AMC)
    • 1 month for additional work
  • Location: All projects are to be completed remotely (students use own IT equipment)

Development of the sensor will be conducted alongside with R&D engineers in the pilot plant where they will provide inputs as required and needed. Technical results can be correlated to inline pressure sensors in the pilot plant to validate the approach.

Applicants should send a CV and covering letter, by 27th July, to: Jonathan.OSullivan@unilever.com
